Saxony-Anhalt as a Holiday Destination
A rich cultural heritage and varied landscapes make Saxony-Anhalt a great destination both for sightseeing as well as for active holidaymakers, particularly when combining cultural and natural experiences with excursions to any of the 43 historic gardens and parks that belong to the state-wide Garden Dreams network.
To the south, garden tourists can explore "Sky Paths" by learning about the Nebra Sky Disc. The parks in Naumburg, Zeitz, Ballenstedt and Drübeck are on the Romanesque Route, which includes eighty churches, monasteries, and castles going back almost 1,000 years to the High Middle Ages. The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom is the culmination of a tour of the state’s four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Those who want to explore the state’s role in the history of the Reformation, will want to follow Luther’s steps in Wittenberg and Eisleben and also check out the Garden Dreams parks in Dessau, Wörlitz, and Halle. Boat trips on the state’s waterways “Blue Ribbon”, biking on national cycling paths, and hiking in the Harz Mountains are all great options for active holidaymakers. After a good workout, treat yourself to regional specialities in the pleasant surroundings of any of the several park restaurants.
